Vector portraits are simplified images made up of general shapes and shades. They're easy to do from a picture, and look impressive when completed. They can also be re sized without loss of quality because the shapes are vectors. You are going to create a self portrait using only vector shapes that you will draw with the pen tool in Illustrator.

1. First you need a photo of yourself... We will take these in class (you may also bring in your own).
2. You will open the photo in Illustrator.
3. You will redraw (trace) over shapes using the pen tool, paint, or pencil tool to recreate your portrait. (create a new layer and lock the pic)
4. You are free to alter some shapes and change colors of your photo.
5. You must draw a creative background that uses the basic art elements and principles of design and compliments your portrait.
